MetLife Beats Estimates; Shares Climb

Snoopy should be dancing. Shares of MetLife�s (MET), , climbed during after-hours when fourth-quarter earnings bested the Street�s expectations.

At $37.59 a share, the stock rose 27 cents a share or 0.72%.

The U.S. insurer, which�licenses Snoopy�s image, earned $1.31 per share during the fourth quarter, beating the Capital IQ consensus estimate by six cents. Revenue rose 19.2% to $16.4 billion with premiums and fees rising 23% to $11.5 billion.

Part of that increase stemmed from the $16 billion takeover of Alico from AIG in November 2010, as well as US growth.
