The fracking revolution has created enormous opportunities for Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs) across the oil and gas industry. Upstream MLPs like BreitBurn Energy Partners (NASDAQ: BBEP) and Legacy Reserves (NASDAQ: LGCY) produced the oil and gas. There was a huge new requirement for sand in the fracking operations, and this encouraged new MLPs like Emerge Energy Services (NYSE: ! EMES) and Hi-Crush Partners (NYSE:HCLP) — both of which have more than doubled in price over the past 12 months. Fracking also requires large volumes of water, which Cypress Energy Partners (NYSE: CELP) provides.

MLPs that specialize in sand for hydraulic fracturing, like Hi-Crush Partners (NYSE: HCLP) and Emerge Energy Services (NYSE: EMES),  have shown outstanding performance since their IPOs, but if there is any slowdown in business each could be in for a sharp correction.

  • [By Robert Rapier]

Rounding out the top five were Hi-Crush Partners (NYSE: HCLP), another supplier of fracking sand (+71 percent), EQT Midstream Partners (NYSE: EQM), a midstream provider in the Appalachian Basin (+66.5 percent), and Valero Energy Partners (NYSE:VLP) (+61.5 percent), which consists of midstream assets dropped down from the refiner Valero Energy (NYSE:VLO).

  • [By Robert Rapier and Igor Greenwald]

Some MLPs have experienced huge capital appreciation. Three–Icahn Enterprises (Nasdaq: IEP), Hi-Crush Partners (NYSE: HCLP), and The Blackstone Group (NYSE: BX)–gained over 100 percent in 2013. A fourth, American Midstream Partners (NYSE: AMID) gained 96 percent for the year.

Top 10 India Stocks To Buy For 2014

Uranium miners have struggled since the March 2011 Fukushima disaster slashed demand for the reactor fuel and sent prices plunging. However, nuclear power continues to be an important part of the energy mix, particularly in the developing world.

If you want to increase your exposure to the sector, a uranium ETF offers a low-cost way to do so. We’ll look at an example below, but first here’s a look at some factors affecting uranium’s short- and long-term prospects.

A major reason behind the fall in uranium prices was that Japan, the world’s third-largest nuclear power producer before the accident, closed its 50 other reactors in response. Since then, other developed countries, like Germany, Switzerland and Belgium, have announced plans to move away from nuclear power. These factors continue to weigh on uranium demand.

However, China and India continue to stick by their nuclear ambitions. According to the World Nuclear Association (WNA), China has 17 reactors in operation, 30 under construction and plans to build more. The agency reports that China’s nuclear generation capacity could increase fourfold by 2020.

Advisors' Opinion:

Trading at a P/E (TTM) of 16 the company is not cheap at first glance, yet given all the information indicating significant earnings growth in 2013 the multiple of 16 becomes much less threatening. There is also the book value of about $10 / share and the recent offer by Landry of $22 a share to add some insurance on the downside. Given current earnings the valuation may be in line, but given the prospects of earnings increasing significantly, the stock is worth more.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Dan Carroll]

The company's generic drug segment should also help push emerging market sales. Abbott markets generic pharmaceuticals outside the U.S. only, and while the division isn't growth-oriented -- sales actually fell around 2% for the quarter -- it provides an entry for the company to push into lucrative new markets such as India, where generics make up the large majority of the country's retail market. The company will face tougher competition in this industry, however: Firms such as India-based Dr. Reddy's (NYSE: RDY  ) have also pushed hard into emerging markets lately, and Dr. Reddy's in particular should benefit from its being headquartered in one of the industry's top locales.

  • [By Benjamin Shepherd] We’re now into day 15 of the US government shutdown, as House Republicans stubbornly try to defund Obamacare. No matter what sort of deal is eventually struck, health care costs aren’t likely to come down any time soon. And that’s good news for generic drug makers.

Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (NYSE: RDY) is one of the biggest players in generic drugs, offering more than 200 off-brand medications in the areas of cardiovascular disease, pain management and oncology, among others. In fact, this India-based company has become one of the largest makers of generics in the world, helping to drive more than 20 percent annual compounded earnings growth at the company over the past decade.

Overall, the most popular emerging market ETFs experienced much sharper declines than the less-than-1% drop the Dow posted this week. Vanguard Emerging Markets (NYSEMKT: VWO  ) and iShares Emerging Markets (NYSEMKT: EEM  ) were both down just under 3% for the week. But when you drill down to look for particular culprits in the emerging markets, you don't have to look very far to find that it was generally a broad-based decline:

In China, more concerns about a slowdown in the manufacturing industry put pressure on stocks. The Shanghai index didn't move much, but one key ETF tracking the Chinese market sank nearly 4% in response to the news, largely on weakness in telecom giant China Mobile (NYSE: CHL  ) , which plays a commanding role in many emerging market-focused ETFs.
Indian stocks suffered from some of the same macroeconomic issues, with the Bombay market's index down about 3% and ETF tracking the market falling 4% to 5%. The Indian finance minister responded to the decline, which many blamed on Fed Chair Ben Bernanke's comments, by saying, "We think that Bernanke's statement has been misunderstood or misinterpreted." Yet that didn't seem to appease investors in outward-directed industries like Infosys (NYSE: INFY  ) , whose IT offerings require health activity levels not just in India but in the U.S. and other customer-heavy countries as well.
Stocks in Mexico suffered declines of almost 5%, retracing some ground after an extraordinarily strong stretch of gains on optimism about the country's ability to reinvigorate its economy beyond its core reliance on petroleum and to resolve ongoing conflicts with drug cartels.

But there were some relatively bright spots in other emerging markets. Brazilian stocks were actually up a bit on the week, as the nation found itself better insulated from all the happenings in Asia related to China and Japan. Russian stocks also remained relatively stable,

Best Gas Stocks To Watch Right Now

If you have the ability and the will to relocate, you may reasonably seek out states with no income tax. There are seven of those Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. (Tennessee and New Hampshire tax dividends and interest income.) That's probably not the best way to find a perfect new home for yourself, though. It's better to consider a state's big picture -- and the overall quality of life that it can offer you.

Money isn't everything
Remember, for starters, that there's more to a good life than money. Along with a state's tax rates, you might consider the cost of living, incorporating the cost of housing, food, gas, recreation, and so on. That's still too broad, though, since costs can vary widely between a state's cities and rural areas, and even between cities. Upstate New York, for instance, offers a much different setting than New York City.

Still, the folks at have taken a stab at determining an overall ranking of states. The states with the lowest cost of living are Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, South Dakota, Kansas, and Nebraska. Note that most of those are not among the states with no income tax. The highest cost of living can be found in California, Hawaii, New Jersey, Alaska, Maryland, and Connecticut. The states with no income tax do include Alaska, but that's it.

But, to my mind, the biggest news of last week for the valuation of Cheniere actually came from Royal Dutch Shell (RDSB). Europe's biggest oil company announced that it would halt plans to build a $20 billion natural gas of liquids plant in Louisiana, even though the state of Louisiana had agreed on $112 million in subsidies. The project would have used cheap US natural gas to produce 140,000 barrels a day of liquid fuels normally made from oil. Royal Dutch Shell cited rising costs and uncertainty about oil and natural gas prices by the time the plant entered operation, in canceling the project.

There are a number of quality Canadian E&P companies that are attractive at current prices. Among my favorites are Baytex Energy (NYSE: BTE, TSE: BTE), Cenovus Energy (NYSE: CVE, TSE: CVE) and Canadian Natural Resources (NYSE: CNQ, TSE: CNQ) I also like Peyto Exploration & Development (TSE: PEY, OTC: PEYUF) for aggressive investors. We have often discussed putting Peyto in one of the portfolios, but I would ideally like it a bit cheaper.

Believe it or not, when you get an email from an airline asking you to "rate your experience from your recent flight." the airline is watching closely.

As The Wall Street Journal discussed last month, the response rates to email surveys for flights can get as high as 20%, much higher than the standard email survey goal of 5%. Apparently, when folks have positive or negative experiences on an airline, they like to have their voices heard.

Net promoter scores
Designed by Bain & Company consultant Fred Reichheld, Net Promoter Scores, or NPS, are one of the most closely tracked metrics of these email surveys. In essence, the NPS measures how likely a flier is to recommend an airline to someone else, on a scale of 1 to 10.

According to the Journal, officials at Southwest (NYSE: LUV  ) and Virgin America monitor NPS results vigilantly. And executives from both JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU  ) and Delta (NYSE: DAL  ) "are convinced NPS results correlate to company profits, since stronger loyalty means stronger ticket sales."

Gannett, a publishing and broadcasting company that operates in the U.S. and the U.K., currently has a price of $29.76, and FBR’s new target suggests an 18% upside.

FBR analyst William Bird had the following comments about GCI’s PT raise: “Based on our analysis, we estimate that Gannett’s spectrum is worth approximately $2.2 billion, or $9 per share, roughly doubling in value from theacquisitionof BLC (i.e., pre-deal valuation of ~$1.1 billion). Separately, we are lowering our 2014 EPS estimate by $0.07 to reflect the previously announced sale of three stations to MDP (note: an expected midyear close means that the stations will not be in operating results from January 1, but the proceeds will not be received until midyear). We are increasing our price target to $35 from $34 to reflect shareholder accretion from the sale. We like Gannett’s improving business mix, growth profile, and ability to drive growth with its own propeller through higher retrans, synergies, and potential TV acquisitions.”

Week's Winners and Losers: YouTube Brags, MySpace Nags There were plenty of winners and losers this week on Wall Street, with a restaurant chain embracing more natural ingredients and an old website digging into your past to woo you back. Here's a rundown of the week's smartest moves and biggest blunders. YouTube -- Winner It's been two summers since Psy uploaded the official "Gangnam Style" video to Google's (GOOG) YouTube. It blew up as a global single later in the year. This week, it surpassed 2 billion views on YouTube. It's a notable achievement for the South Korean pop music star, but it's also a big deal for YouTube. After all, the milestone shows how popular YouTube is as a video-sharing platform. Most folks may have tired of the video and the song ages ago, but clips live on forever in cyberspace. YouTube just validated itself again. MySpace -- Loser Speaking of bringing pop stars to life, MySpace -- yes, MySpace -- turned heads this week by sending out old photos posted years ago to the emails of folks with dormant accounts. MySpace had its moment in the sun before giving way to Facebook (FB), but the social networking dinosaur now jointly owned by Specific Media and pop icon Justin Timberlake, is struggling to regain its relevance. Sending old pics to folks that have moved on may seem like a clever tactic given the popularity of Throwback Thursday, but it comes off desperate at best, and creepy at worst. Panera Bread (PNRA) -- Winner Panera became the latest eatery to climb onto the organic food bandwagon this week. The chain of bakery cafes revised its food policy, moving to do rid its menu of artificial colors, flavors and preservatives by 2016. It's a smart move for Panera. Growth at the former quick-service darling has been slowing lately, with analysts targeting top- and bottom-line growth in the mid-single digits. Anything it can do to beef up its profile with the growing number of consumers angling for natural foods will only help. Walmart (WMT) -- Loser The world's largest retailer held its annual shareholder meeting on Friday. Activists threatened to stage a protest, arguing that Walmart isn't paying a living wage. However, the reason Walmart falls short is because it stocked area Walmart stores with stockholder-specific merchandise. We're talking about T-shirts, cups, and and caps with "Walmart SHAREHOLDER" imprinted on them. They're selling for just $6. This is Walmart, after all. However, after a rough run during which the retailer has posted five consecutive quarters of same-store sales declines, is stakeholder pride really something that's going to be on display? Five Below (FIVE) -- Winner When you have to sell everything in your store for $5 or less -- hence the Five Below moniker -- it's understandable to be concerned about the bottom line. I mean, you can't even stock those $6 "Walmart SHAREHOLDER" T-shirts until the unsold swag becomes an overstocked closeout. (You know it probably will.) However, Five Below is bucking the trend among thrift havens, which are generally struggling to draw shoppers. It saw its net sales soar 32 percent, powered by healthy expansion on top of a 6.2 percent increase in comparable-store sales. Don't mark down this markdown specialist.
