Japanese auto major Toyota Motor Corp. (TM) disclosed on Monday that it plans to export U.S.-assembled Camry sedans to its distributor in South Korea.
The company stated that Camry vehicles would be manufactured by team members at its manufacturing plant in Georgetown. The plant is the largest manufacturing facility outside Japan with jobs to around 7,000 team members and an additional 20,000 jobs with vendors and suppliers in Kentucky and other States.
The Japan automaker started exporting U.S.-assembled vehicles in 1988 and the exports increased 30% to about 100 thousand units in calendar year 2010. Currently, the company is exporting U.S.-assembled vehicles to 19 countries in the world.
Toyota's Camry has been the top selling brand in the U.S. during the 13 of the 14 years and remains as top selling vehicle in the world too. Camry is being exported from the U.S. for the first time. The vehicle would land in South Korea from January.
