Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman's 2013 compensation jumped 73% to $18 million, the investment bank says.

Morgan Stanley, the last of the major investment banks to report 2013 compensation, says in a Friday proxy that Gorman's salary rose 87% to $1.5 million and his bonus jumped 110% to $5.4 million. His compensation includes a $4.3 million stock award and stock options valued at $2.6 million. Gorman's 2012 compensation was valued at $10.4 million.

Morgan Stanley's total shareholder return was 65%, best among major investment banks.

Gorman's pay gains were among the largest of leading banking executives.Morgan Stanley said it established a $20 million target for "superior performance" to $10 million for performance "substantially below expectations."

Among rivals:

Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan's compensation jumped 89% to $14 million from $7.4 million in 2012. He gained another $4.6 million from vested shares.
